I talked to another wanna be mom recently and we got to talking about why pregnant women are usually looked upon as crabby, vindictive and moody. I mean, if they act like that normally, isn’t it just natural that they will still act the same way when they’re pregnant?
The sudden outbursts related with pregnancy is the mystery that wanna be moms have to de-code. It seems that even the toughest women who rarely get emotional over trivial things can show certain behavioral abnormalities during pregnancy. I’ve read about women who got emotional while watching videos on youtube about dieting, ephedrine reviews or sexy clothing.
I’ve heard stories of women suddenly bursting into tears over nothing. I’ve seen how a pregnant woman screamed at a grocery clerk because the shop’s supply of chocolate syrup ran out just an hour ago.
And… the strange thing is that these women are normally very calm and composed. They never showed any signs of neurosis before they became pregnant, so where’s the crabbiness coming from?
One new mom described it this way: “Everything gets magnified when you’re pregnant. It must be because you’re so uncomfortable standing or sitting, so you think every joke uttered by the people around you is directed at you.”
Another one said: “If you carried a small water-proof backpack containing a gallon of water for a few days, and you need to bring it with you even when you’re trying to pee or poop, you will understand.”
It still makes no sense, but I think I’d rather hold on to my own vision of how a pregnant woman should act… serene and light-hearted, smiling and beautiful. But then again, I heard that wanna be moms who think they will go through pregnancy serenely usually have the worst temper during pregnancy.
Hello! Welcome back to my blog :)
