What gave you the greatest joy in motherhood? -GIVEAWAY CLOSED

Motherhood is the scariest, toughest but most rewarding job I have ever had in my entire life. Scary because, the life of this precious little boy is on my hands. Tough because we are responsible in shaping who he will be and rewarding because his smiles are priceless.

Before I became a mom, I had lots of questions and I still do. I am lucky because I have my mom and lots of friends who willingly gives me advice when I ask them newbie mom questions. I also browse the parenting forums for answers. One great resource I just discovered that provides parenting information is Drypers.com.ph . It’s kind of like moms digital playground :)

Hello! Welcome back to my blog :)

Sweet Gift from a Mommy Blogger

Today we picked up a package when we went to town. A very sweet blogger named Nicquee sent Sean some cookies. I have been looking for these specific cookies to give to my baby because it is something that I grew up eating and I knew that they are given to babies. I couldn’t find it here in our island :P so Nic sent us some.

Isn’t that amazing? I am truly touched.

Thank you so much Nic!!  Sean loved the Marie cookies :D

Movers and Shakers

Sean is really a mover now. He’s super duper active now and I am not exaggerating :P ! Our typical day starts at 5:00 am sometimes even earlier. He would wake us up with his cry and he won”t stop till we stand up and bring him out to the living room. Half asleep, I would get up and  put a dvd for him and let him watch from his playpen so that even if I fall asleep, he’s safe and sound.

At around 6 or 7, I would be fully awake so it’s either I let him explore the house by letting him crawl, me following him everywhere of course, trying to stop him from licking everything he sees or we could be playing on the floor.

When I was little I used to watch Care Bears so I let Sean watch it too and  I was ecstatic when I saw him enjoying the Care bears too! It’s so funny when he laughs all of a sudden to the antics of the bears.

I need to get some zzzzzs now while Sean is taking a nap.

Freedom for Sean

It was difficult decision for me but when Sean turned 8 months, I gave him some freedom to roam around the floor. Why was it such a difficult decision you might wonder? Well I was afraid of the bacteria and germs that he will contract by crawling on the floor. Yes of course we clean our floors everyday, but I am sure there are still gazillion of germs and what- not that can be found on the floor. You can call me germophobic or OC but for me I just don’t want my baby to get ill.

But anyway, after some deliberation, I tried to overcome my fear of germs so that he would  have a bigger place to practice his crawling and exploring. To my surprise, he learned to crawl properly in a jiffy. He has now mastered the art of crawling. I need to be quick if I want to stop him from grabbing or licking something. Yes, that’s the consequence of the freedom given to him-  being able to reach and touch lots of different things.

And that’s why we also started with NO. It’s so funny because when I say No to him, he is  able to show that he doesn’t agree with me. He would move my hand away from the object I am preventing him to touch or by making a face that shows ” But I want to touch it!“  :P

What else has he been up to? Hmmm…he’s been screaming a lot, I don’t know if he thinks he’s talking or singing :) He also loves to laugh! He’s a very happy baby … I enjoy him so much.

He can now stand longer and longer and has started walking while holding on to the sofa :D (with one hand- yes he’s that confident) or the wall of his playpen. He fell a couple of times and cried but after awhile forgets about the incident. I’ve noticed that he’s becoming more careful after falling several times.

When he’s inside his playpen, he would try to climb out and sometimes would use whatever item that’s available to step on. Never a dull moment here in this house :D .

Does he sleep through the night already? NO ! When he was 7 months he would just play a bit around our bed, climb on top of us, pull our hair etc. Now when he wakes up at around 3 or 4 a.m. , he would cry hysterically till he can get us to get up and bring him out to the living room.

I wonder when he is gonna sleep through the night… (yawn) so I can get a night sleep of more than 4 hours again.

Happy 8 Months Sean!

Hey Baby!!

You are 8 months old already. Where did the time go? You can now sit, crawl and pull yourself up…you’re even trying to climb out of your playpen. It’s seldom that you sit still, when you are sitting on my lap and you see the laptop, for sure you will go and dive for it.

You are also walking like you are in the military :D – it’s so so cute!

You started with solids but we have to temporarily stop it because you have been throwing up a lot and I was very worried that you are not gaining weight because of this. We’ll try it again in a few weeks or so.

Oh and yeah you are so fascinated with paper – magazine, books and newspaper! Maybe you’re gonna be a writer someday :D

Lately you are throwing your head back a lot and fake coughing when you don’t like something. Getting you dressed is also a battle with you – you flip as hard as you can or grab things you see around you. I don’t know what you don’t like about getting dressed or changed.

A week ago you would put your head next to my head. I think that was your way of kissing but just a couple of days ago you gave me real kisses. Oh that’s just so amazing!!!

I am now busy organizing your first birthday party. We will be doing it in Manila so that our family and friends can finally meet you.

FINDING COMFORT AND REMINISCING WONDERFUL MEMORIES WITH A CUP OF MILO

The smell of breakfast food wafting in the morning air, the scrumptious home-cooked meals by Mom, and the raucous my siblings and I create are some of the things I miss the most now that I am away from my childhood home. Having a family of my own is wonderful but I cannot help but feel nostalgic at times when joyful memories from the past are evoked.

During these times, I turn to my comfort foods. I try to recreate one of my Mom’s home-cooked meals to relive those moments when we would all be sharing a sumptuous meal together. It never is as perfect as Mom’s cooking though. The only comfort food that turns out perfect and has stayed the same throughout the years is Milo. It never fails to bring back memories of my childhood whenever I drink it.

Milo has played a part in my growing years. It warmed my tummy during breakfast and served a perfect match to whatever we were having for breakfast. Be it pancakes, eggs, fried rice, pan de sal, Milo always perfectly complemented our breakfast fare. On warm summer afternoons, we would have ice-cold Milo with our sandwiches or cookies. Even as a young adult, a warm cup of Milo would soothe my troubled heart as my Mom comforted me and assured me that all would be well. Nothing really beats the rich choco-malt taste of Milo in bringing back all the wonderful memories I have of my childhood.

Now that I have a family of my own and am creating memories with my husband and my son, I still turn to the chocolatey goodness of Milo to make our bonding moments more heart warming. When my son grows up, he will also cherish all the wonderful moments we’ve shared over cups of Milo.

How about you, do you have any fond memories with Milo too? I would love to hear it.

Belated Happy 7 months Sean!

Dear Sean,

It’s a week too late but better late than never right? You are now 7 months old and becoming more and more mobile. We cannot leave you alone for 1 second because you will surely dive or grab something and put it in your mouth.

Just a few days ago, you started saying Papapapapa and Mamamapa!! Oh you have no idea how delighted I was to hear those words.

You also like to make faces and show your tongue. I don’t know where you got that, probably from Simon – the guy in the educational program you watch. You looks so hilarious when you make this faces, I still need to get a chance to take a photo of that ! I still cannot believe that you are already 7 months- don;t grow up too fast baby.

I love you so so much!!

Momma
