We did try for another embryo transfer for the second time and thought I wouldn’t stay in bed for two weeks this time. Other women don’t even know that they are pregnant after a month, so they just live like as always. I didn’t got pregnant that second time so this time I decided to stay on bedrest again for two weeks since I got a good result the first time when I did it this way.

So let’s hope it all works out this time.

If you plan to do IVF  in Singapore you should know that one cycle takes about 6 weeks starting from taking the medication. I suggest you contact several clinics you want to visit and ask them everything you need to know as early as 2 months before your planned IVF cycle.

I have been through this before so I try not to drive myself crazy as much as I can. So I busy myself with blogging and talking to you guys. I visit IVF forums and read experiences from fellow women doing IVF. It’s a great way to ease my mind because I know I am now alone in what I am going through. I also read a lot of Baby and child websites to broaden my knowledge about pregnancy.

I don’t know if  peeing more often and wanting to eat all the time are pregnancy symptoms.For the latter, I am thinking  that, maybe I am just eating more because I am bored or to

I don’t want to get too excited this time because it’s hard if later on I hear the bad news. I don’t want to sound so negative, I am just trying to protect myself from heartaches.

I hope that my next period normalize. My doctor said that I need to get atleast 3 normal periods before we can consider the Embryo Transfer again. He told me to visit the clinic when I get my 2nd period, to check (I guess) if my body is already getting back to normal.

So I am guessing we would do it again in November – if all works out.

This vacation is really doing me good…I am having a great time catching up with my family, and later on I will be meeting up with some friends as well.

I am still having some bleeding, I got scared when I got some heavy bleeding at first, after having very little bleeding the days before that but I guess there are things that still needs to get out of my body.

When I get back, I will be reading alot on IVF and also Pregnancy articles, to educate myself better on this.

Somehow I still think maybe I did something wrong. I know I know I should stop beating myself up…

I was home bound for two weeks as you all know. It was boring to stay all day everyday at home. I thought to myself, “ Now I know how it is to be on house arrest.”

Some of the things you can do too if you are on house arrest, I mean on a bed rest :

1. You can do some interior design planning or if you are expecting a baby you can plan for his/her room already.

2. You can also busy yourself in organizing photo albums.

3. You might have bought books you still have not found time to read yet, so this is a great opportunity to catch up on your reading.

Just take it easy!

The first couple of days was alright but after several days this is becoming the longest 2 weeks of my life. I must be on bed rest, not move too much. I had to stay at home for the whole duration.

Why? Because we have to make sure that the embryos stay where they are suppose too.

[All this happened on July 4, I am just retelling my experience for the sake of the ones who will be going through IVF as well and of course so that you get to know what I went through I am already pregnant:)!]

Embryo transfer occurs normally after 3 or 5 days of the egg retrieval. In my case it was three days after. Now today is a really important day as well. As I told you on my Egg Retrieval post, I mentioned that I had 27 eggs. They were joined by my husband’s sperms and only 20 have fertilized – it is still a pretty good number. 2 of them were not of good quality, 2 embryos will be transferred in me.

We arrived in the hospital thinking it would only take half an hour or so. But that is not the case. This is one of the thing I didn’t like about my fertility clinic, they did not explain well that it would take the whole day.

When I arrived at the OR, my doctor showed me the pictures of my embryos and these are my two babies that they have put back inside me.

Oh by the way if you are doing this make sure that you have a full bladder. This is another thing they didn’t really explain well to me. Before they do the operation, they will be doing a scan to see the uterus and they can only see this if you have a full bladder. I peed before I went to the operation because I didn’t know – well they had to pump me with water via a catheter – not really a comfortable experience!

It had to be done. When they were already able to see the uterus, they went on putting the embryos to me. It didn’t really take long.

So after the transfer, I had to lay for four hours and there’s no going to the bathroom. If you have to pee, you would have to do it on the bedpan.

I was dischared after the 4 hours rest. From this day on I would need to be on bed rest for 2 weeks.

07/01/09 – One of the most important day in my life.

I injected Ovidrel at 8:00 pm, the time here is very important as the OR is based on the injection.

Night before the operation (egg retrieval) I started fasting at 9 pm. I went to sleep at 11 pm and I hardly slept through the night. My Egg retrieval was scheduled at 8:00 am so we had to wake up really early. We must be at the hospital at 7:00 am, the travel time to the hospital was about half an hour so it means I had to wake up at 5:30 am to prepare. At 6:00 am, I took the antibiotics with a sip of water as asked. We left and we arrived around 6:30, we were one of the first in the hospital but better early than late. At 7:00 am we were brought to my room.

In a few minutes, I changed into the hospital gown and got on a wheelchair. Now off to the ER. I was the brought to the operating room. The anesthesiologist was already there and minutes before 8, my doctor came. The nurse checked my name and also checked my blood pressure and then anesthesiologist have started IV. I must admit, I love the anesthetic! One moment I am talking to the nurse then the last thing I remembered was having the oxygen mask put on.

Next thing I am awake in my bed back in recovery. Felt wonderful compared to last time. I was feeling much better. I just woke up and was informed that they have retrieved 27 eggs! I was then brought to a room to recover, I dunno how long I rested but for me it seems like forever. I hate waiting!

In half an hour I was brought back to my room. My bloodpressure was checked again and in a few minutes, I got a lunch of Tuna Sandwich ( Now I know why hospital food has such bad rep! :p), my husband then went and got some real lunch from Delifrance.

I went home in an hour or so and slept most of the afternoon. I had some cramps, something comparable to menstruation cramps.

At these point my eggs and my husband’s sperm is being united and we will hear soon if they fertilized!

Coming Up: Embryo Transfer

After being married for more than 6 years, my husband and I decided we are now ready to have children. After trying for several months with no results, I decided to consult a doctor to do some tests. My husband had already children in the past so I wanted to know if there’s maybe something wrong with me. The result came and it showed that I am fertile.

A month ago I have started my IVF Treatment. Yes this is why I haven’t been very active lately on the blogosphere. I tried not to work or be online too much to avoid stressing myself.

Remember my post about the cost of IVF in Singapore and around the world on my other blog? After some thorough thinking, we have decided to finally do it. Doing IVF means having daily injections.

Week 1

6/08/09 – The official start of my IVF / ICSI Journey is on the 21st day of my last period. We went to the Fertility Clinic to pick up the meds and learn from the nurse on how to administer it on my own. I’ll tell you I was scared shitless at this time. I was thinking, how would I remember everything she’s telling me. Good thing that I brought my hubby along as he served as my extra ear.

The nurse asked if my hubby wanted to do it and he did it with the assistance of the nurse. As I child, I have always been afraid of needles. I was so nervous and thought I would pass out or something but it was NOT painful at all! Remember when they say it’s just like an ant bite, it true.

06/09/09- At home,we are on our own. I decided to do it myself as my hubby will be traveling on business trip in a few weeks so I wanted to make sure I can do it. To tell you the truth, I hardly breath while I was doing it which is not good because this might cause me to faint.

06/10/09 – I was getting used to giving myself injections and was also already learning how to breath while doing it. I am almost like a pro in injections.

The meds needs to be injected at the same time of the day, so if you inject it at 9 am then you should continue injecting yourself at 9 am at the coming days at the same time. I continue taking the same amount of meds till the day of my period.

On the day of my period, I need to take an additional med.

And then on the fifth day of my period we start checking if there are follicles already. This can be seen with a scan. Every couple of days I would go to the doctor to do this. The picture below is one from Day 8 of my period. The follicles are bigger now and you can see them better. In this scan I have follicles from 11- 14 mm in size.
